Celgene Associate Director, Knowledge Dissemination in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Celgene seeks a talented, results-oriented individual to lead our knowledge dissemination activities in Informatics and Predictive Sciences (IPS). This role will collaborate across the Informatics and Predictive Sciences department and with key partners across Celgene to develop the strategies, tools and resources needed to capture and re-use knowledge to inform our decisions and drive scientific exploration. The individual will be responsible for developing, supporting and facilitating knowledge dissemination in support of our Research & Early Development (R/ED) strategy, in close collaboration with basic research, translational and computational scientists.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead/contribute to the development of a knowledge dissemination strategy and associated implementation plan that enables

  • Extraction of knowledge from content (internal/external)

  • Transformation of tacit knowledge into explicit or specifiable knowledge

  • Structuring knowledge for search, exploration & analytics

  • Bringing knowledge together around key entities of human biology

  • Leveraging competitive intelligence for signal detection

  • Functional leadership and standard of excellence for our knowledge dissemination capability within Knowledge Science; guide best practices and encourage shared problem solving

  • Partnering across IPS and R/ED leadership to develop cross-functional strategies, priorities and resourcing plans that drive knowledge dissemination and program acceleration

  • Work closely with a research and computational scientists to identify knowledge capture and management needs for R&ED scientific questions and program decisions

  • Integrate external and internal data to generate knowledge around targets, compounds, diseases and biological mechanisms to help drive target identification and prioritization, patient and indication selection.

  • Pilot innovative technologies and build tools that allow for biologically relevant scientific context to be applied to and guide decisions made on data.

  • Promote knowledge sharing through our processes and systems by steangthening links between knowledge sharing and the information systems, and improving integration among information systems in the organization

  • Build and promote collaborative tools that facilitate sharing of scientific ideas and work among internal teams and external partners;

  • Engage with the applicable functional leads and key initiative leads

Experience and Education

  • 10+ years of experience in data science, data architecture, and/or knowledge management experience, preferably in a pharma, academic research, healthcare or related environment.

  • 5+ years professional experience within the Pharmaceutical industry

  • BA/BS in information systems or a business/scientific/quantitative related discipline

  • Team/project leadership experience

  • Hands on expertise in building knowledge dissemination tools and applications

  • Extensive practical experience working with diverse but highly-connected scientific knowledge collections and their query interfaces to enable research hypotheses around compound targets, mechanisms of action, and patient response

  • Must thrive in a complex, dynamic environment while adapting to dynamically changing priorities

  • Excellent skills in R programming and experience in additional computer languages such as Python, Perl, PHP, S-PLUS or Java (or C/C++); Shiny or Spotfire development

  • Working knowledge of both Windows and Linux operating systems is required

  • Along with programming proficiency must have creativity, and show a strong capacity for independent thinking and the ability to grasp underlying biological questions

  • Must thrive in a complex environment while adapting to dynamically changing priorities

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, and excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Working knowledge of cloud computing, AWS experience preferred

  • Working knowledge of Rest APIs and container strategies preferred.

  • Understanding of LIMS systems and systematic, relational approaches to data integration and data processing workflows, preferred.
