Supply Chain Operations

Purpose of the Position:

The Buyer/Planner is responsible for interpreting and analyzing demand and usage requirements for various components to support the CAR-T Manufacturing Site in Summit NJ. Those components include typical pharmaceutical supplies such as operating supplies, general raw materials, components, equipment and maintenance supplies. The role will collaborate with both internal and external organizations to ensure supply continuity and optimum combination of delivery, quality and value. The Buyer/Planner has a leading role in the deployment of strategic sourcing projects and methodologies supporting manufacturing operations.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop, maintain and actively manage relationships with to ensure optimize total cost of ownership.

  • Manage contractual framework through collaboration with various internal departments (Legal, Quality, Manufacturing) to negotiate contracts, manage termination/renewal and modifications to contract scope.

  • Responsible for regular supplier and contractual performance evaluations and periodic business review meetings with stakeholders and suppliers.

  • Place orders via purchase order line item releases.

  • Monitor product life cycles and alert appropriate team members to any actionable inventory requirements and disruption to supply.

  • Conduct investigation and root cause analyses on any supply disruptions or material quality issues and report on corrective actions.

  • Complete spend analytics and supplier analyses to develop project base for evaluation and consolidation of spend across Celgene’s global supply network.

  • Leads and participates in cross-functional teams to improve systems, processes or internal/external performance.

  • Maintain and update site procedures for CAR-T material management functions.

  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

Required Competencies-Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of cell culture, cryopreservation, purification, and aseptic processing or lab technique

  • Knowledge of cGMP/Pharmaceutical regulations

  • Advanced proficiency in purchasing / planning / ERP systems and analytics tools

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications

  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills

  • Advanced presentation development and delivery skills

  • Technical writing capability

  • Ability to work independently for extended periods of time

  • Ability to work as a team

  • Ability to mentor peers

  • Ability to develop and provide training on various functions

  • Ability to solve routine and complex problems

  • Ability to provide on-call support in case of emergent issues

  • Proficient in computerized system testing

  • Ability to travel < 10% of time

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree required.

10+ years relevant work experience required, preferably in a regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.

5+ years of experience supporting ERP systems (preferably Oracle EBS).

An equivalent combination of education, experience and training may substitute.

Working Conditions:

  • Intermittent walking and sitting to perform job functions; however, ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time may be necessary.

  • Physical dexterity sufficient to use computers and documentation.

  • Sufficient vision and hearing capability to work in job environment.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Must have the ability to work around laboratories and controlled, enclosed, restricted areas.

  • Cleanroom garments and personal protective equipment will be required in designated areas which cover head, parts of the face, core body, and legs/feet.

  • Makeup, gum, nail polish, or other potential microbial sources are prohibited in restricted areas.

  • Flexibility to don clean room garments and personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Clean room environment is an enclosed, restricted space, with assigned pressure and temperature conditions. Reagents, chemicals, and exposure to sanitization agents are expected.

  • Routine exposure to human blood components.

  • Designated areas may prohibit food, any outside materials such as cell phones, tablets, at a minimum.
